Barnes and Noble offers two different types of gift cards, a traditional plastic gift card and an electronic online gift certificate. Traditional gift cards can be purchased at any participating Barnes and Noble stores, on their website, and via third parties, such as grocery stores. The online gift certificates are available via Barnes and Noble's website and are only redeemable online. Barnes and Noble also offers a corporate gift card program for bulk orders with a minimum $1000 purchase. Corporate gift card denominations are available in any dollar amount from $5 to $250. Volume discount is available based on purchase size over the current purchase year. Co-branding of corporate gift cards is also available. All gift cards and online gift certificates are issued by Marketing Services (Minnesota) Corp.

Barnes and Noble gift cards are redeemable at any Barnes & Noble store nationwide, including College Bookstores, Barnes & Noble.com, and any B. Dalton Bookseller stores.
- No expiration date.
- No fees on gift cards.
- Lost or stolen cards will not be replaced.
- Not exchangeable for cash, except where required by law.
- Cannot be used to purchase gift cards or online gift certificates.

Barnes and Noble online gift certificate is only redeemable online and have similar terms to the plastic gift card.
- Cannot be used to purchase other certificates or gift cards.
- Cannot be exchanged for cash.
- Will not be replaced if lost or stolen.
- Not redeemable for purchase of other gift cards or online gift certificates.
