Borders Group (NYSE: BGP) is the second largest book retailer in USA operating approximately 500 stores under the name Borders. In addition, Borders Group owns and operates Borders Express, Waldenbooks, and Brentano's store.

Borders gift cards can be purchased at any participating stores, their website, and via third parties, such as gift card malls at grocery stores. Borders also offers a corporate gift card program for bulk orders with a minimum $1000 purchase. Corporate gift card denominations are available in any dollar amount from $5 to $500. Customization of gift cards with company logo, custom image and /or message is also available.
In January of 2003, Borders Group eliminated expiration dates on all electronic gift cards sold and that it never charged fees for cards left unused for extended time periods.[1]
It has been reported that Borders Group is facing financial difficulty and could seek bankruptcy protection.[2] It is wise to go ahead and redeem any Borders gift card as under bankruptcy protection, gift card redemption can be suspended.
On May 29, 2008, Borders and Amazon.com broke off their partnership in servicing Borders.com online orders. Therefore, Borders gift cards are no longer accepted at Amazon.com.[3]

Borders gift cards are redeemable for retail merchandise at any Borders, Borders Express, Waldenbooks, and Brentano's store in the United States and online at borders.com.
- No expiration date.
- No hidden fees on gift cards.
- Lost, stolen, or damaged gift cards may be canceled and replaced with a new gift card in the amount of the then-remaining balance upon proof.
- Not returnable or redeemable for cash.
- Not valid for any used merchandise available online.
- Only one gift card redeemable per online transaction.
For balance inquiry, either call 877-728-4000, visit any Borders store, or in "Your Account" on Borders.com.
It is reported that there are still some old paper gift certificate and Borders.com certificate still in circulations. These certificates can be exchanged for a Borders Gift Card of equal value.
