In 2005, I converted my American Express Rewards points into gift cards. What I really wanted was cash and thought gift card was the next best thing. Naturally I thought of reselling some of the extra gift cards for cash on either eBay or Craigslist. Not knowing what a good resale value for the gift cards were, I wrote a program that aggregated gift card transactions and calculated resale metrics and trends. GiftCardNexus was launched with the purpose of making the information available to anyone who wanted it. The first iteration of the website used Joomla. However, it became cumbersome to manage and maintain (upgrade).

In mid-2008, after evaluating MediaWiki (what is used on Wikipedia), I decided to start converting over to a new platform. Hopefully, other people who find this information useful can start contributing to it. The website is still in development, which means content, layout, functionality and accessibility are likely to change without any notice. If you have any input or want to contribute, please go ahead.
